The basics
What is MyDanceDates?
It's a place to find dance auditions and keep track of them. MyDanceDates checks the audition boards and company websites you follow, pulls out the details that matter (date, place, pay, what to bring, the sign-up deadline) and shows each audition as a card. Mark it Interested, Maybe or Not for me, then follow it in your tracker all the way from applying to getting hired.
How much does it cost?
Nothing. MyDanceDates is free during early access. If we ever add paid features, we'll tell you first, and nothing will be charged unless you choose to sign up for them.
Do I need to download an app?
No. MyDanceDates works in the web browser on your phone, and you can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app:
- iPhone: open mydancedates.com in Safari, tap the Share button, then Add to Home Screen.
- Android: open it in Chrome, tap the ⋮ menu, then Install app or Add to Home screen.
Does it only work in New York?
For now, the auditions come from New York City audition boards. You can still add any company's site as a source, wherever the company is. We'll add more cities as we're able to.
Auditions and sources
Where do the auditions come from?
From public audition boards, starting with Dance/NYC, BroadwayWorld and The Dance Enthusiast, and from any company websites you add. Each audition links back to the original listing. If a site asks automated tools not to read it, we don't.
How accurate are the details?
Mostly accurate, but not perfect. Listings are written by people in a hurry, so details are sometimes missing or unclear. When we're not sure about a detail, the card flags it so you know to check the original post. Always confirm with the organizer before you rely on a date or deadline.
Why do some cards say “Seen 3×”?
The same audition often gets posted in several places. We combine those posts into one card and tell you how many times we saw it, so you're not sorting through duplicates.
Does MyDanceDates apply for me?
No, and that's on purpose. The app fills in a submission email from your template and lets you edit it, then hands it to your email app to send. That way the choreographer's reply goes straight to your inbox, and your email doesn't come from an address they've never seen.
Calendar
Which calendars does it work with?
Any calendar that can subscribe to a calendar link: Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook and most others. You subscribe once, and it keeps itself up to date. Note that some calendar apps only refresh subscribed calendars every few hours.
Why do auditions show as “free” on my calendar?
Because being interested in an audition doesn't mean you've committed to it. Auditions and deadlines appear on your calendar without blocking your time, so other plans can still be made around them. Once you get a callback, that one switches to busy.
Privacy and your account
Who can see my resume and headshots?
Only you, until you decide otherwise. Your materials are kept in separate private storage from everything public in the app, and each request to open one is checked against your account. When you send a file to a casting director, the website version of the app creates a private link to it. Anyone with that link can open the file until you tap Stop sharing. The mobile app attaches the file to your email instead. We never sell your materials or use them to train AI. The Privacy Policy has the details.
What do you get when I sign in with Google or Apple?
Just your name, email address and, if you have one, your profile picture. That's all we use to set up your account and sign you in. We can't see your Gmail, Drive, contacts or calendar. With Apple's Hide My Email, we never see your real address.
How do I delete my account?
In the app, go to Account, tap Delete my account, and type delete to confirm. Your tracker, materials (including the files), templates, sources and calendar link are deleted right away, and you're signed out. Emails you've already sent and events already added to your calendar aren't affected. If you can't get into the app, email support@mydancedates.com from the address on your account and we'll do it for you.
Is there an age requirement?
You need to be at least 13. If you're under 18, please use MyDanceDates with a parent or guardian's permission. Many auditions are 18+, and each card tells you the age requirement when the listing includes one.
